
Auto Industry Files Suit to Block CA Emissions Limits
We bailed out the auto industry, not once, but twice if you count the Cash for Clunkers program. And how do they repay us? Do they jump on board the environmental bandwagon? No! Of course not. They’re suing the EPA!
On September 24, 2004, the California Air Resources Board passed new greenhouse gas emissions standards for motor vehicles. In December of 2005, California began the process to obtain a waiver from the EPA regarding greenhouse emissions gas standards, not in an effort to exceed the national standard, but in an effort to require more stringent standards than the federal government’s.
California’s waiver was denied under the Bush Administration. On July 8, 2009, six months after President Obama signed a presidential memorandum directing the EPA to reassess the matter, the EPA reversed its previous ruling.
Now the US Chamber of Commerce and the National Automobile Dealers Association have filed suit to block the waiver. For more information,
